| 522. Daniel Hernandez (Peruvian, 1856-1932), Stolen Kisses, c. 1890; oil/panel, 20" x 15", signed, original ornate frame. Hernandez lived and worked in Paris, and specialized in figurative works. Hernandez studied under Italian painter, Leonardo Barbieri in 1870, and after winning a scholarship from the Peruvian government in 1875, left to study in France. He exhibited at the Artistes Francais, Exposition Universelle (1900), and was awarded the Legion dHonneur in 1901. He returned to Lima in 1919, and set up the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes, and was its director until his death. 10,000-20,000 |
