540. William Ritschel (American, 1864-1949), "Venice", c.1900; watercolor/paper, 12" x 29", signed, excellent original frame. Important California painter. Ritschel was born in Germany and studied at the Royal Academy in Munich. He was well known for his marine scenes. He came to the U.S. in 1895, and settled in California in 1911. He exhibited at the Boston Art Club, National Academy of Design, Paris Salons, Philadelphia Art Club, San Francisco Art Association, and the Art Institute of Chicago. His work is in numerous museum collections. 2000-3000
