Well known Chicago painter; exhibited and taught at the Art Institute of Chicago in the 1930s. Chapin also exhibited at the National Academy of Design and the Chicago Gallery Association.

714. B.J.O. Nordfeldt (American, 1876-1955), "Fishing ", c. 1934; pastel/paper, 11.5" x 15.5", signed. Important modernist. He studied at the Art Institute of Chicago in 1899. He went to France briefly, then returned to Chicago and became a portrait painter. He moved around for the next ten years, and eventually settled in New Mexico in 1917. It was in Santa Fe that Nordfeldt began to really mature as a painter. He was sympathetic to the Spanish-Americans, and executed portraits and still lifes. In the 1920s, he painted more colorful Indian subjects and the New Mexican landscapes. 1000-2000
