706. Kenneth Shopen (American, b.1902) "The Glee Club", c. 1931; oil /canvas laid down on board, 40" x 71", signed and dated. Studied at the University and the Art Institute of Chicago and was a member of the College Art Association of America. He exhibited Corcoran Gallery biennials (1941-47). 800-1200
704. Hermann Heyenbrock (Dutch, 1871-1948), "Steel Mill", c. 1920; pastel/paper, 18" x 25", signed. Heyenbrock worked almost exclusively in pastel, and frequently depicted this type of subject.

705. Xavier J. Barile (American, b. 1891), "X.J.B. Himself in Gray Hat", c. 1964, oil on board, 24" x 20", signed and titled on verso. He studied at the Cooper Union Scool of Fine Art and the Art Students League. He exhibited at the National Academy of Design, Santa Fe Museum, Whitney Studio Club, and the Denver Art Museum (late 1930s-1940s). He worked as an illustrator for magazines and covers, and was the Director of the Barile Art School (1919-39).

707. Moses Soyer (American, 1899-1974), "Pensive Woman", c. 1955; oil/canvas, 18" x 14", signed. The Soyer family emigrated to the U.S. in 1912 from Russia, settling in New York. He studied at the Cooper Union School and at the National Academy of Design. He executed projects for the Works Project Administration during the Depression, and most of his subject matter portrayed people reflecting on their uncertain situations. He was a strong advocate of social realism and opposed regionalism as well as landscape painting. During the 1940s, Soyer continued to paint figures, but the circumstances of the subjects had changed; many of his works were of dancers and portraits. His work is included in numerous museum collections, including the Museum of Modern Art, Metropolitan Museum, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Art Institute of Chicago, and the Whitney Museum. 3500-5500
708. Robert J. Lee (American, b. 1921),"Vegetable Vender", c. 1949; casein, 18" x 24", signed. Lee studied at the Art Academy in San Francisco. He exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago, Butler Institute of Art, Society of Illustrators, and the Connecticut Association of Fine Artists. He taught at the Pratt Institute in the 1950s. 800-1200
