1498. Louis Wolchonok (American, 1898-1973), "West Virginia Coal Miner's Family", c. 1938; pen and ink with watercolor/paper, 18.5" x 15", signed. Wolchonok studied at the Brooklyn Academy of Fine Arts, National Academy of Design, and the Cooper Union. He exhibited at the ACA, Whitney Museum of Art, Art Institute of Chicago, National Academy of Design, Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art, and the Los Angeles Museum of Art. He specialized in social realist subjects, and made a trip from New York to West Virginia, and became interested in the families and communities of the coal miners there. 1000-1500
