1497. Adolf Benca (Czech/American, b. 1960), "Perception", c.1978; pencil drawing and collage, 22" x 29", signed, titled, and dated. Benca was born in the Czech Republic, and came to the United States as a boy. He studied at the Cooper Union School, Columbia University, and the University of Bologna (anatomical studies). He was awarded the following fellowships: Art Institute of Chicago Study Grant; Sarah Cooper-Hewitt prize, Cooper Union; French Ministry of Culture Painting Grant; Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant. He exhibited at the M-13 Gallery (New York); ARTE FIERA (Bologna, Friends of Johns Hopkins); Twining Gallery, Achim Moeller; Czechoslovak Society of Arts & Sciences (Washington DC); and the Alexander Carlson Gallery. His work is in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, Metropolitan Museum, National Museum of American Art, and the Vatican Collection (Rome). 800-1200 |
