| 1337. Leon Dabo (American, 1868-1960) "Sunset", c.1900; oil/canvas, 22" x 30", signed, excellent original carved frame. Dabo went to New York City in 1884, and became a friend and employee of John LaFarge. He exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago, Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art, and the Armory Show (New York, 1913; he was one of the founders of the AAPS, the group which organized this show). His work is included in the collections of the Imperial Museum of Art (Tokyo), Boston Museum of Fine Art, Detroit Art Association, St. Louis Art Museum, and the Detroit Art Institute. Dabo was a strong proponent of the tonalist aesthetic, and this is an excellent example of his work. 8,000-10,000 |
