805. Sonia Delaunay (Ukrainian, 1885-1979), “Abstract Composition”, 1965; original aquatint etching with hand-coloring, 19.5" x 15.5", signed and numbered, edition of 125. Edition: Sonia Delaunay, Paris, France, 1965. Delaunay studied in Germany and in Paris. It was in Paris that she met and married Cubist painter, Robert Delaunay in 1910. Her style, generally known as Simultaneous Contrasts, is based upon the idea of increasing the contrast of two complimentary colors by placing them side by side, in a quilted pattern. Delaunay began to design fabric and clothing, bringing art into fashion, much like the Futurists did in the 1910s-20s. 1250-1500
