Popularized in France by Edgar Brandt, the French are known for their fine hammered iron work of the 1920s. Brandt developed his hammered iron techniques during WWI, when he used metallurgy skills to develop weaponry. During this period, French designers saw a need for a new decorative style that was separate from organic Art Nouveau designs.
