559. Francis De Erdely (American, 1904-1959), “Reclining Figure”, c. 1940; oil/canvas, 19" x 28", signed. Important California regionalist painter. Born in Hungary, he studied at the Royal Academy in Budapest. He was a member of the Los Angeles Artists Association and the Pasadena Society of Artists. He exhibited extensively in the 1940s-50s, at the Los Angeles County Museum, Laguna Beach Art Association, Art Institute of Chicago, Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art, San Francisco Museum of Art, Carnegie Institute, Santa Barbara Museum of Art, and the Denver Art Museum. He taught at the University of Southern California and the Pasadena Art Institute. His work is in numerous museum collections. 2000-3000
