546. George Herbert Baker (American, 1878-1943), “Winter along the Whitewater River”, c. 1924; oil/canvas laid down on board, 29.5" x 39.5", signed and dated. Landscape painter from Richmond, Indiana. Born in Muncie, Baker studied at the Art Academy of Cincinnati. He exhibited at the Richmond Art Association, Hoosier Salon, and the Indiana State Fair. He was closely associated with T.C. Steele and John Elwood Bundy. Steele and J. Otis Adams painted in Brookville, while Bundy and Baker painted in Richmond, which was a little further north along the Whitewater River. Baker often worked in pastel. 300-500
