| 524. Carl Graf (American, 1892-1947), Peonies, c. 1920; oil/ board, 18" x 23", signed, nicely framed. Graf studied at the Herron Art Institute with Forsyth, and then at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art and the Art Students League (where he met V.J. Cariani). He remained friends with Cariani, and eventually married Carianis girlfriends (Marie Goth) sister, Genevieve Goth, in the mid 1920s. He was the first president of the Brown County Art Gallery Association, formed in 1926. He painted landscapes and still lifes, and exhibited at the Hoosier Salon. This is a fine example of his floral subject matter. 4000-6000 | ||||||
