Highly important American marine painter. Bricher grew up in Boston. He was largely self-taught, although influenced by the style of Fitz Hugh Lane. He became a professional artist in 1858, and ten years later moved to New York. During the 1870s-80s, he painted the coastline of Massachussetts. Rhode Island, and Long Island.
