| 783. Ruth Gikol (American, 1913-1983), Street Scene, c.1940; oil/canvas, 26" x 38", signed. Gikol was the wife of Jack Levine. Gikol studied at the Cooper Union School and with Raphael Soyer and John Steuart Curry. She was a member of the Woodstock Artist Association, and exhibited at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art, Whitney Museum of Art, Corcoran Gallery, and the Weyhe Gallery from the 1940s-70s. She illustrated Crime and Punishment . She also taught at the New School for Social Research in the 1960s. 600-800 |
