662. Charles Appel (American, b. 1857), “Landscape at Sunset”, c.1900; oil/canvas, 30" x 36", signed, original frame. Well known landscape painter who worked in the barbizon style. Appel studied with Chase and Mora, and exhibited at the Salmagundi Club in new York in 1906. He also exhibited with the Society of Independent Artists. This is an exceptionally large and important example of his work which reflects his interest in the tonalist aesthetic. 5000-7000
