643. Paul Sample (American, 1894-1974) “Vermont Farm”, c.1940; 13" x 19", signed. Sample studied at Dartmouth College and Jonas Lie. In 1926, he went to California and worked on the faculty of USC until 1938. He then returned to alma mater to teach, and remained there the rest of his life. He was very successful commercially his entire career, and exhibited extensively throughout the country. He was well known for his New England landscapes and scenes of everyday life. His work is in the collections of the Art Institute of Chicago, Brooklyn Museum, Metropolitan Museum and the Smithsonian Institute. 3000-5000
