The following lots are from the collection of Chris Walther and Susan Stockton. During the past twelve years, they have assembled one of the best-documented and most representative collections of Arts & Crafts kit textiles. Through their collection of hundreds of original embroidery catalogs and period magazines, they have identified the makers of approximately half the pieces in their collection. Many of their pieces have been pictured and described in articles in Style 1900 The Quarterly Journal of the Arts & Crafts Movement and in the landmark book American Arts & Crafts Textiles, as well as being exhibited at the textile exhibition at the 13th Annual Arts & Crafts Conference at the Grove Park Inn. Many of the lots in this sale will be accompanied by photocopies of reference materials identifying the pieces, their makers and other relevant information. We are pleased to offer this first installment of textiles from the Walther-Stockton collection.
