Like many of Columbo’s designs, this innovative lamp has a highly sculptural quality. Light is emitted from a bulb in the base and is transmitted to the leading edge of the C-shaped acrylic form. The curve at the top directs light downward.

While Hollein (born Vienna, 1934) is known for his post-modern designs for Memphis and Poltronova, his body of work includes jewelry, graphics, sculpture and architecture. In Post-Modern Design (Rizzoli, New York, 1989, pg. 226), Michael Collins and Andreas Papadakis describe the Marilyn sofa as “a Neo-Classical couch, a Hollywood casting couch and an Art Deco screen goddess couch all in one.”
