709. Wallace Bassford (American, mid. 20th), “Figures in Red: A Quiet Moment”, c. 1960; oil/canvas, 24" x 30", signed, titled. Studied at the St. Louis School of Fine Art, University of Missouri, Washington University School of Fine Arts, and with Pennell, Hoke, von Schlegell, Wuerpel, Carpenter, Gleeson, Goetsch and G.E. Brown. Was a member of the St. Louis Artists Guild, Allied Artists of America, Audubon Artists, Provincetown and Capecod Art Associations. Exhibited at the Kansas City Art Institute, 1933 (gold); City Art Museum of St. Louis, 1937, 1938, 1945 (prize); St. Louis Artists Guild, 1932 and 1944 (prizes); San Francisco Museum of Art, 1941; Allied Artists of America, 1945; Boston Gardens Festival (Pop Prize); Terry Art Institute (prize) and Grand Central Art Gallery NY 1970s. Works included at the Missouri State Capitol Building, University of Missouri, University of Syracuse and DeBeers Collection. Designed covers for Literary Digest, instructor at North Truro School of Art and taught privately in Palm Beach FL. He wrote Painting the Female Figure. 600-800
