703. Juhani Palmu (Finnish, 20th century), “Unta Bleau/ NeidonkaMarissa II Lauantaiehtoo”, c.1980; oil/canvas, 20" x 26", signed, titled, label from Dyasen Gallery on verso. Exhibited: Yrjonkato 16 (Helsinki); Hoteli Haikko (Porvoo); Galerie Bernheim-Jeune (Paris); Ashkenazy Galleries (Los Angeles); and Montserrat Gallery (New York). At the turn of the 1980s, Palmu became interested in painting the figure, specifically, the Finnish Pietists. The traditional fashions and simplicity of the Pietist dress and the unchanged appearance of their surroundings greatly attracted the artist. Their simplicity and unpretentiousness were for Palmu symbols of internal peace, which became the name for the series of paintings. 700-900
