| 668. Joe Jones (American, 1909-1963), Still Life, c. 1950; watercolor, 35" x 18.5", signed. Joe Jones was an important American Scene painter, muralist, and political activist. Jones met fellow Missourian, Thomas Hart Benton, and the two worked closely together for some time, and were good friends. Around 1949, Jones changed his style dramatically. His compositions became very minimal, and his content became less literal. Jones work is included in the collections of the Whitney Museum, Metropolitan Museum, Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art, and the St. Louis Art Museum. 800-1200 | |||||
