| 509. Henri Le Sidaner (French, 1862-1939), Gerberoy Surroundings, c. 1920; oil/canvas, 15" x 22", signed. Le Sidaner studied briefly with Alexandre Cabanel at the Ecoles des Beaux-Arts in 1880. He first exhibited in 1891 at the Salon des Artistes Francais, and later that same year at the Salon de la Societe Nationale. He moved in 1900 from Etaples to Beauvais, and then to Gerberoy, where he painted urban landscapes and gardens. He began favoring a broken brushwork reminiscent of Seurat, and worked mostly from memory, rather than direct observation. 15,000-20,000 | ||||||
