| 523. Mathius J. Alten (American, 1871-1938), "House in Grand Rapids", c.1910, oil/board, 12 x 19", signed dated original frame. Alten studied with Whistler in Paris, Sorolla in Spain, and briefly with Edward Turner in Grand Rapids. He was a member of the Grand Rapids Art Association, Chicago Gallery Association, and the Scarab Club. He exhibited from the 1890s-1920s, at the Art Institute of Chicago, Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art, National Academy of Design, Detroit Art Institute, and the Chicago Gallery Association. His work is in the collections of the Detroit Institute of Art, Syracuse Museum of Fine Art, and the Michigan State Capitol. 5000-7000 | |||||||||
