The window is a variation on the window design used in the front entryway of the Patten house. In Maher’s important commissions he used the rhythm motif. This motif takes an organic element and uses it as a theme throughout the home in textiles, furniture, windows, lighting, etc. The thistle motif was one of the most complex used by Maher in his rhythm motif theory.
