His wall reliefs have geometric forms superimposed on a basic background sheet, which project out creating a third dimension. The articulation of form and color cause an interplay between the patterns and colors and the dimensional abstraction makes the wall pieces both painterly and sculptural. Holland studied at Willamette University , Berkeley University and the University of Santa Barbara. He has been a teacher at the San Francisco Art Institute from 1961 to 1968 and 1972 to 1980 and also taught at Berkeley and the UCLA. 2000-3000

His work is included in the collections of WPA post office murals. Abstract expressionist and friend of Jackson Pollock and others of Thomas Benton’s circle of ASL students. The veneer on this cabinet is applied such that, depending on one’s vantage point, light reflects differently on certain portions, causing a geometric pattern to appear when, in fact, all of the veneer is the same color. It is believed that this cabinet was exhibited at the Century of Progress in Chicago in 1933-1934.
