375. Pansy Cornelia Stockton (American, 1895-1972), “Yachting on Grand Lake”, c. 1920; assemblage (known as a “Sun Painting”), 9” x 7”, signed; artist label verso. Stockton used fragments of hundreds of varieties of vegetations as mediums in her work. These elements included ferns, bark, weeds, leaves, and twigs, and some of her pictures had as many as 10,000 components. She studied at the Cory School in Denver. As an artist in Colorado, she was known for her sun paintings, depictions of the Mount of the Holly Cross, Spruce Tree House in Mesa Verde, and the Gateway to the Garden of the Gods.
