Daniel Rhodes (American, 1911-1989) studied at the University of Chicago, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Art Students League in New York and the Stone City Art Colony with Grant Wood and John Steuart Curry.
He received numerous WPA mural commissions, and was active in Iowa art associations including the Iowa Art Salon. In the late 1950s, he became Professor of Ceramics at Alfred University School of Ceramics in upstate New York, a position from which he went into retirement. He is the author of numerous books on pottery, including Clay and Glazes for the Potter, Stoneware and Porcelain: The Art of High Fired Pottery and Kilns: Design, Construction and Operation.
The following four lots of Daniel Rhodes pottery are the property of a personal friend of Rhodes. They date from 1977-1979.
