424. Allen Tucker (American, 1866-1939), "House in a Landscape", c. 1920; oil/canvas, 30" x 36", signed. Tucker was a painter and architect, although he abandoned architectural work around 1904. He studied painting with John Twachtman at the Art Students League. Tucker became a charter member of the Association of American Painters and Sculptors, the group responsible for organizing the 1913 Armory Show in New York, which included five paintings by Tucker. His first one-man show was held at the Whitney Studio Club (which later became the Whitney Museum) in 1918. Tuckers use of light and color reveals his admiration of Van Goghs paintings. His work is included in the collections of the Art Institute of Chicago, Brooklyn Museum, Metropolitan Museum, and the Albright-Knox. 8,000-10,000
