355. William M. Hart (American, 1823-1894), original sketch and letter from William Hart to William H. Beard in response to the latter’s request to raise funds for the U.S. Sanitary Commission (predecessor to the American Red Cross). The letter states: "Hoping that nothing may interfere or retard the onward march of liberty". The sketch, depicting a coastal view, is signed and dated, 1860, and measures 2.75" x 4".
