346. Frederic Arthur Bridgman (American, 1847-1928), "Distant Coastal Village", c. 1880; oil/canvas, 12" x 19.75", signed. Bridgman studied at the National Academy of Design and the Brooklyn Art Studio, before leaving for France in 1866. he was one of the first artists of the Pont-Avon colony in Brittany. He made his first of many trips to North Africa in 1872, and achieved great success with his orientalist works in the 1870s-80s. Bridgman exhibited at the Brooklyn Art Association, Paris Salon, National Academy of Design, Art Institute of Chicago, and many other major expositions from the 1860s-1920s. 6000-8000
