1052. Carl Oscar August Erickson (American, 1891-1958), "Minnehaha Creek, Minneapolis", c. 1939; oil/canvas, 18" x 22", signed, titled. Chicago painter. Erickson studied at the Chicago Academy of Fine Art and the Art Students League. He exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago, Society of Independent Artists, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art. Like many painters of t time, Erickson's career was divided into fine painting and illustration work. He was a very successful illustrator, working for Vogue for quite some time. 1056. Chanel Pickering Townsley (American, 1867-1921), "California Landscape", c. 1915; oil/canvas, 16" x 20", unsigned, signed on the stretcher verso. Townsley studied in Paris and with William M. Chase in New York. He managed the Chase Shinnecock School in Long Island, New York, before arriving in Pasadena in 1914. Townsley was the director of the Stickney Memorial School in Pasadena, and later the Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles. He exhibited at the Museum of New Mexico, Art Institute of Chicago, Stendahl Gallery (L.A.), and the National Academy of Design. Townsley was also president of the California Art Club. 2000-3000
