He was a member of the Provincetown Art Association and the Beachcombers. He exhibited at the National Academy of Design and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art. He eventually moved to Kansas, and became the Chairman of the Painting Department at the University of Kansas.

This painting was purportedly traded for the balance of the artist’s bar bill at The Old Bear Lounge, located on 55th Street, in Hyde Park (Chicago). It was given to the present owner from Sol Tannenbaum, the proprietor of the bar in the 1950s.
