William Cotton (American, 1885-1958), ; lot of three pastels, one pictured: "The Couple and the Trunk", c. 1930; 11.5" x 8.5", unsigned, identified with label from unknown gallery verso (the work is undoubtedly by Cotton and they may not have been signed if used as an illustration; the label indicates that they may have been used in The New Yorker ). The other two are similar in size and subject. Cotton worked as a painter and cartoonist. He exhibited at the National Academy of Design, Art Institute of Chicago, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art. 1200-1800 | |||||
