755. John W. Bentley (American, b. 1880), "California Coast", c.1920; oil/canvas, 16" x 20", signed, unframed. Bentley studied at the Art Students League with George Bridgman, Frank DuMond, and Robert Henri, was an early member of the Woodstock art colony, exhibiting at the Buffalo Society of Artists, 1921 (prize); Ridgewood Art Association, 1940 (prize). His works are included in the collections of Kingston New Yorks City Hall and High School, several government buildings in New York under the WPA, and the Dutch Reformed Church in Woodstock. He was part of the artist’s colony in Woodstock, NY, and went to California to paint. 1500-2500
