| 733. Henry Arthur Elkins (American, 1847-1884), "Elk in a California Landscape", c. 1870; oil/canvas, 26" x 20", signed. Elkins studied only briefly with Albert Bierstadt, but the influence of his teachers work would be present in Elkins paintings throughout his career. He first visited the Rocky Mountains in 1866, and painted western subjects such as Mount Shasta and the Sierra Madre for the remainder of his short career. 1500-2500 | |||||
