| 726. Charles Gruppe (American, 1860-1940) "Pastoral Landscape", c. 1910; oil/canvas, 24" x 30", signed, excellent original ornate frame. Gruppe spent over twenty years in the Netherlands, from 1889-1914. He returned to the United States at the onset of WWI. The influence of the Dutch School is immediately evident in Gruppes style and palette, although he favored landscape and marine paintings to the domestic subjects associated with the Hague School painters. He was a member of the Philadelphia Art Club, Salmagundi Club, and the American Federation of Arts. 5000-7000 | ||||||
