490. Wilson Henry Irvine
(American, 1869-1936), "Sunset along the Coast", c.1910; oil/canvas, 24" x 27", signed, nice period carved frame. Well known impressionist painter. Irvine studied at the Art Institute of Chicago, and exhibited with the Chicago Society of Artists and the National Academy of Design. He also worked in Old Lyme, Connecticut. 4000-6000

Lot 491

491. Fred Green Carpenter
(American, 1882-1965), "Exotic Landscape with Figures", c.1925; oil/canvas, 29" x 24", signed. Carpenter was an important student of Richard Miller. He painted in Paris from 1907-11, and then returned to St. Louis to teach at the Fine Art School. This work reveals Carpenter's gradual transition to more modern compositions, without abandoning the knifework and palette of impressionism. Related Literature: Art Across America, Two Centuries of Regional Painting, William Gerdts. An excellent example of what would become Carpenter's signature style. 5000-7000
