464. Paul Sawyier (American, 1865-1917), "View of the Kentucky River", c.1905; watercolor/paper, 11" x 17", signed. Important watercolorist from Frankfort, Kentucky. Sawyier studied at the Cincinnati Art Academy from 1884-85, and with Frank Duveneck around 1891. His softly colored watercolor landscapes and street scenes were highly regarded, and he favored that medium during his stay in Kentucky. He moved to New York City in 1913, and became increasingly interested in working in oil the last few years of his life. An exceptional example of Sawyier's work. 5000-7000
