Lot 574 574. Paul Jenkins (American, b.1923), "Phenomena English Longbow Arch", c.1972; watercolor/paper, 22" x 36", signed. Jenkins' signature style of flowing paint was an expression of his philosophical influences, especially the Chinese, I Ching, which emphasized perpetual change and a process of becoming. He developed this style in the early 1950s, and followed it throughout his career, although there have been subtle changes, such as, in his later work, he allows more of the white background to be visible, making the overall image much brighter. 1000-1500 |
