| Lot 571 571. Louis Schanker (American, 1903-1981), "Abstract Composition", c.1946; oil/canvas, 34" x 27", signed and dated, original artist-made frame. Important American modernist. Schanker was a member of the American Abstract Artists (NYC) and a member of the American Art Congress. He executed W.P.A. projects, and was the Director of the Graphic Arts Program in the early 1940s. He exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago, National Academy of Design, and the Whitney Museum.
