Lot 494 494. Richard Buckner Gruelle (American, 1851-1914), "Coastal Scene with Sailboat", c.1898; watercolor/paper, 9" x 13", signed and dated. Gruelle was one of the five "Hoosier Group" painters in Indiana. He was a prolific watercolorist, and painted both Indiana landscapes and coastal scenes. Alice Beach Winter (American, b.1877), "Children with Sailboats", c.1943; oil/canvas, 29" x 36", signed, inscribed on stretcher, "Louisa Bronson Hunnewell and Francis Oakes Hunnewell, children of Mr. and Mrs. Hollis Hunnewell of Wellesley, Mass.". Winter worked primarily in Gloucester, MA, painting children and landscapes. She studied with Twachtman and Decamp, and exhibited at the National Academy and the Los Angeles Museum. She also illustrated children's stories. 1500-2000 |

He studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and exhibited in Chicago and nationally.
