| 1165. Eduoard Boccia (American, 20th century), "Still Life with Purple", c.1962; oil/canvas, 30" x 40", signed, titled, and dated. A St. Louis modernist, Boccia studied with Max Beckmann at the St. Louis School of Fine Art from 1948-49. He was part of a group of artists in St. Louis who adopted Beckmann's expressionist style. He later taught at the St. Louis School of Fine Art. 600-800 |

1166. Vaclav Vytlacil (American, 1892-1984), "Still Life with Flowers", c.1946; oil/canvas, 30" x 20", signed. Early important modernist painter. Vytlacil studied with Hans Hofmann in Munich in the 1920s. He returned to the U.S. in the late twenties and taught at both the Art Students League and UC Berkeley (his students included Robert Rauschenberg, James Rosenquist, and Tony Smith). Vytlacil painted primarily non-objective works from the early 1930s through the early 1940s, but by the mid-forties, he returned to a more expressionist style, and exhibited a large group of still lifes, beach scenes, and portraits in New York in 1946. 2000-3000 |
