1155. Kimon Nicolaides (American, 1891-1938), "Cosmic Fusion", c.1930; oil/canvas, 48" x 75", signed and identified on verso, exhibition label also on verso. Nicolaides worked in Paris from 1922-23, and held a one-man show at the Galerie Bernheim Jeune. When he returned to the U.S., there was an exhibit of his work at the Whitney Studio Club, which is now the Museum. He taught at the Art Student's League in New York for fifteen years, and exhibited there from 1925-35. He exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art in 1932 and at Georgetown University (1938). This is a major example of his early futuristic work. 6000-8000

1156. Oscar F. Bluemner (American, 1867-1938), group of four drawings of Bloomfield, New Jersey, c.1916-17; black crayon/paper, 3.5" x 5.25" (each), all signed and dated. Important American modernist. Bluemner exhibited at the New York Armory Show (1913) and the Forum Exhibition of Modern American Painters (1916). He specialized in stern, highly abstracted city views. He was part of the Stieglitz group, which included painters Dove, O'Keeffe, and Hartley; and Stieglitz sponsored Bluemner's first one man show in the U.S. 800-1200

1157. Charles E. Burchfield (American, 1893-1967), lot of two doodle drawings, each 7.5" x 4.25"; a letter accompanies this lot which states, " a xerox copy of this doodle by Charles E. Burchfield is recorded in the Charles E. Burchfield Archives of the Burchfield-Penney Art Center, Buffalo State College, Buffalo, New York." 600-800

1158. G.H. Baker (American, early 20th century), "Brown County, IN", c.1920; watercolor and graphite, 17" x 14", signed. 250-350

1159. Bela Horvath (American/Hungarian, 20th century), "Women Picking Flowers", c.1930; oil/board, 18" x 25", signed. 300-500

1160. John A. Seaford (American, early 20th century), "Notre Dame, Boston", c.1910; pencil drawing, 11" x 10", signed. Seaford was known for his works on paper, usually of architecture. He worked in Richmond, IN. 250-350

1161. American School, "Portrait of a Black Man", c.1930; oil/board, 24" x 17", signed clearly, but is unknown to us. 300-500

1162. Paul Hadley (American, 20th century), "Black Athlete", c.1940; oil/canvas, 37" x 20", signed on verso. Hadley worked in Indianapolis and often painted black subjects. 300-500
