1072. Max Kuehne (American, 1880-1968), "A Walled City-Avila, Spain", c.1920; oil/canvas, 26" x 32", signed and dated. Kuehne studied with Chase and Henri in New York around 1910. He and his wife lived in Spain for a number of years in the late 1910s. He traveled throughout Europe, until finally returning to New York, where he became friends with fellow artists, such as Hopper, Glackens, and Prendergast. His work was influenced by the European impressionists, which is evident in his palette and brushwork. He spent many summers painting in Rockport and Gloucester. 3000-5000 |
