1062. Ernest Albert (American, 1857-1946), "Early Evening Landscape", c.1915; watercolor/paper, 11" x 15", signed. Old Lyme, Connecticut landscape painter. Albert worked as a theatrical designer early in his career in St. Louis and Chicago. His work in this field declined after 1905, and he began to devote most of his time to painting. The majority of his landscapes were painted in Old Lyme. He was a member of the Lyme Art Association, National Academy of Design, Salmagundi Club, and the American Watercolor Society. 800-1200 |

1065. Edmund Henry Wuerpel (American, 1866-1958), "Meadow Stream", c.1924; oil/board, 12" x 14.5", signed with monogram; dedicated on verso,"To Lois and Edward, June 17, 1924". Important tonalist painter. Wuerpel studied with gerome and Whistler in Paris. He was the Dean of the St. Louis School of Fine Art, and was well known for his atmospheric landscapes. He exhibited extexsively, and won awards at the St. Louis Expo (1904) and the Pan-Pacific Expo (1915). 1000-1500 |
