1050. Adolph Robert Shulz (American, 1869-1963), "May Morning", c.1920; oil/board, 14" x 17", signed. Shulz was considered to be the founder of the Nashville Art Colony (Indiana), first visiting there in 1900. He moved there with his wife, Ada, who was also a painter, in 1917. He painted landscapes and exhibited at the Hoosier salon and the Brown County Art Association regularly. He began taking students and eventually left his wife to marry Alberta Rehm, a young student painter. While Shulz's family life was chaotic, his art and his subject, nature, were his sanctuaries. 3000-4000 |

1051. John Elwood Bundy (American, 1853-1933), "Indiana Landscape", c.1900; oil/canvas, 24" x 32", signed. Important landscape painter from Richmond, IN. He was awarded the Richmond Prize (1907,1909,1926), and the Earlham Alumni of Chicago Prize (1926). He was a regular exhibitor at the Hoosier Salon and the Richmond Art Association, and was the head of fine art at Earlham College (1887-95). 3000-5000 |

1052. Richard Buckner Gruelle (American, 1851-1914), "East Ponit", c.1895; oil/canvas, 11" x 17", signed and titled on stretcher in the artist's hand. Important early Indiana painter and one of the Hoosier Group. He exhibited at the Indianapolis Art Association, Central Art Association (Chicago), Richmond Art Association, Pan-Pacific Expo (1915), and the Chicago Gallery Association. He specialized in landscapes and marines. REF: The Hoosier Group, Five American Painters. This painting was executed while he worked on the East Coast. 2000-3000 |
