Albright specialized in scenes of his children in daily activity outdoors. 1028. Will Vawter (American, 1871-1941), "Fishing Boats", c.1925; oil/canvas, 20" x 24", fine carved frame. Important Indiana impressionist. Vawter moved to Brown County, Indiana in 1908. He did illustrations for James Whitcomb Riley's books from 1893-1920s. He won numerous awards at the Hoosier Salon in the 1920s-30s and was granted a one-man show there in 1932. He also exhibited at the Brown County Art Association, Marshall Field's and the Nashville Gallery. His bold brushwork and colorful palette make his paintings somewhat more uniquely American in style than the disciplined, Munich-trained Hoosier Group artists. Vawter used white highlights to produce a glistening effect which is evident in this work. 6500-8500 |

Louis Ritman (American, 1889-1963), "Woman in a Striped Skirt", c.1920; watercolor and gouache/paper, 16.5" x 14", unsigned, accompanied by a letter from Maurice Ritman, which lists several watercolors purchased by one buyer, provenance. Important American expatriate painter. Ritman studied at the Art Institute of Chicago before traveling to Giverny in 1912. He returned to Chicago in 1930 and taught at the Art Institute. His post-impressionist figure paintings are highly desirable. 5000-7000 |
