Paxton studied with Tarbell, Benson, and DeCamp before joining them on the faculty at the Museum of Fine Arts School in Boston. Paxton’s specialty was figure painting, especially young women of the leisure class, executed in a highly polished style with great attention to the details of surfaces and the quality of light.
