| 514. Walter Shulz (American, 1895-1918), “The Small Brook”, c.1917; oil/canvas, 20" x 27", signed, original frame. Walter studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and with his parents. He painted in Wisconsin and in Brown County after the family had settled there in 1917. Walter showed great promise as an artist, but he decided to enlist in the U.S. Army in the Spring of 1917, and was sent to Europe to fight. Although he survived the war, he died of diptheria in France before he could return home. A very fine rare example of Walter’s work. 6500-8500 |
