| 469. Edward Gay (American, 1837-1928), “Landscape with Stream”, c.1900; oil/canvas, 24" x 30", signed, fine period frame. Well-known landscape painter. Gay was born in Ireland, and moved to the U.S. in 1848, settling with his family in Albany, NY. He was urged to paint by the Hart brothers and George Boughton. He traveled to Germany in the early 1860s to study further. When he returned to the U.S. in 1867, he lived in Mount Vernon, NY, just north of New York City.
